HOW TO CONTRIBUTE
Notes to Contributors
The Journal of Educational Enquiry publishes
original articles (up to 8000 words) and book reviews (up to 1500 words)
on all aspects of education. The editors encourage the submission of high
quality manuscripts on:
- Research methods
- Teacher education
- Student learning and welfare
- Educational policy
- Curriculum
- Teaching and training
Parts of the journal are dedicated to show-casing the work of research
degree students and teachers reflections on practice. Submissions
for these sections of the journal are welcome.
In submitting a contribution, please consider the following:
- Submitted manuscripts should not be under consideration
for publication elsewhere.
- Authors should write for an international audience.
- Authors should use non-discriminatory language.
- Authors should use Australian English spelling (eg:
focusing, colour, hypothesised).
- Authors should use current English style
where two words were previously hyphenated, many have become one word
through common usage (eg: postmodern, postcolonialism).
- Authors should use minimal punctuation with abbreviations
(eg: Dr, Prof, et al, USA, ie).
- Authors should clearly mark the intended position
of figures and tables in the text and provide them on separate pages.
Figure numbers should be shown as Arabic numerals and table numbers
as Latin numerals.
- Headings and subheadings should be clearly distinguished.
- Manuscripts should not contain any formatting.
This means:
- No styles
- No tabs
- No central headings
- No EndNote bibliographic citations
- No running headers or footers
- No inserted page breaks
- No all-capitals headings - use a capital for
the first word only, unless a word requires a capital (eg Australia)
- Referencing:
- References should be provided in the text using
the author/date system. For example: Howard and Johnson (1999), (Howard
& Johnson 1999)
- With more than three authors: Howard et al (1999),
(Howard et al 1999)
- If quotes are used, include page numbers. For
example: Howard and Johnson (1999, p 135)
- All references cited in the text should
be included in a reference list at the end of the manuscript. Please
use the following style:
Book
Gilbert P & Gilbert R (1998) Masculinity goes to school. Sydney:
Allen and Unwin.
Book chapter
Barnett J & Walsh J (1999) Academic literacy: it warrants explicit
teaching. In B Johnson and A Reid (eds) Contesting the curriculum.
Sydney: Social Science Press, pp 32-73.
Journal article
Howard S & Johnson B (1999) Tracking student resilience. Children
Australia, vol 24, no 3, pp 14-23.
- Except for journal titles, use capitals only for
the first word of a title or where a word requires a capital. Please
ensure that all information is complete and formatting is consistent.
